How to Use This Calculator:

This calculator helps you estimate the number of calories you need to maintain, lose, or gain weight based on your gender, age, weight, height, and activity level.

  • Select your gender.
  • Enter your age in years.
  • Enter your weight in kilograms.
  • Enter your height in centimeters.
  • Select your activity level from the dropdown menu.
  • Click the “Calculate” button to see your results.
How It Calculates the Results:

The calculator uses the Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) formula to estimate the number of calories you would burn if you were at rest all day. The formula used is:

For males: BMR = 10 * weight(kg) + 6.25 * height(cm) – 5 * age + 5

For females: BMR = 10 * weight(kg) + 6.25 * height(cm) – 5 * age – 161

The BMR is then multiplied by an activity factor to estimate your total daily energy expenditure (TDEE):

  • Sedentary (little or no exercise): TDEE = BMR * 1.2
  • Lightly active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week): TDEE = BMR * 1.375
  • Moderately active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week): TDEE = BMR * 1.55
  • Very active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week): TDEE = BMR * 1.725
  • Extra active (very hard exercise/sports, physical job or training twice a day): TDEE = BMR * 1.9

The calculator then provides estimates for three scenarios:

  • Maintenance Calories: The number of calories you need to maintain your current weight.
  • Weight Loss Calories: The number of calories to consume daily to lose weight (500 calories less than maintenance).
  • Weight Gain Calories: The number of calories to consume daily to gain weight (500 calories more than maintenance).
Limitations:

Please note that this calculator provides estimates only. Individual caloric needs can vary based on multiple factors such as genetics, metabolism, and overall health. Always consult a healthcare provider for personalized advice.
