How to Use the Caloric Calculator:

Enter your weight in pounds, height in feet and inches, age in years, select your gender and your activity level. Click the “Calculate” button to get your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and daily caloric needs.

Calculation Explained:

The calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation to compute your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). The equation is:

  • For men: BMR = 10 * weight (kg) + 6.25 * height (cm) – 5 * age (years) + 5
  • For women: BMR = 10 * weight (kg) + 6.25 * height (cm) – 5 * age (years) – 161

The total daily caloric needs are then estimated by multiplying the BMR by an activity factor:

  • Sedentary (little or no exercise): BMR * 1.2
  • Lightly active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week): BMR * 1.375
  • Moderately active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week): BMR * 1.55
  • Active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week): BMR * 1.725
  • Very active (very hard exercise/sports & physical job): BMR * 1.9

Limitations:

This calculator provides an estimate based on average values and does not account for individual variations in metabolism or activity levels. Always consult a healthcare professional for personalized advice.
