Calorie Counter Usage Explanation
This calorie counter estimates your daily caloric needs based on various parameters.
How to use:
- Enter your age in years.
- Select your gender.
- Enter your weight in kilograms.
- Enter your height in centimeters.
- Select your physical activity level from the dropdown menu.
- Click on the “Calculate” button to get an estimation of your daily caloric needs.
How it calculates:
This calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation to calculate the Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). BMR is an estimate of how many calories you’d burn if you were to do nothing but rest for 24 hours. It then multiplies the BMR by your activity level to estimate your total daily caloric needs.
Equation:
- For males: BMR = 10 * weight (kg) + 6.25 * height (cm) – 5 * age (years) + 5
- For females: BMR = 10 * weight (kg) + 6.25 * height (cm) – 5 * age (years) – 161
The activity levels and their corresponding multipliers are:
- Sedentary (little or no exercise): BMR * 1.2
- Lightly active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week): BMR * 1.375
- Moderately active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week): BMR * 1.55
- Very active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days/week): BMR * 1.725
- Super active (very hard exercise/sports & physical job): BMR * 1.9
Limitations:
Remember that these calculated values are estimates and individual calorie needs can vary based on many other factors not considered in this simple calculation. Consult a healthcare provider for more personalized advice.
