How to Use the Calorie Calculator

To use this calculator, simply input your age, sex, weight, height, and activity level into the form and click the ‘Calculate’ button. The calculator will display your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and your total daily caloric needs based on your activity level.

How It Calculates

The calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation to estimate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). The BMR is then multiplied by an activity factor to estimate your total daily calorie expenditure:

  • Male BMR Formula: 88.362 + (13.397 x weight in kg) + (4.799 x height in cm) – (5.677 x age in years)
  • Female BMR Formula: 447.593 + (9.247 x weight in kg) + (3.098 x height in cm) – (4.330 x age in years)
  • Activity Factors:
    • Sedentary (little or no exercise): BMR x 1.2
    • Lightly active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week): BMR x 1.375
    • Moderately active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week): BMR x 1.55
    • Active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week): BMR x 1.725
    • Very active (very hard exercise/sports & physical job): BMR x 1.9

Limitations

Please note that this calculator provides an estimate of your daily caloric needs. Actual caloric needs may vary based on various factors including but not limited to medical conditions, genetic factors, and individual metabolism. Always consult with a healthcare provider or nutritionist for personalized dietary advice.
