This tool helps you estimate the total cost of your drywall project accurately.
Drywall Estimate Calculator
This calculator helps you estimate the number of drywall panels required for your project. Fill in the required fields regarding the dimensions of your walls and the drywall panels, and get an instant estimate.
How to Use the Calculator
- Enter the height and length of a single wall (in feet).
- Enter the number of walls you want to cover.
- Enter the height and width of the drywall panels you will be using (in feet).
- Enter the waste factor (as a percentage) to account for cutting and mistakes.
- Click Calculate to get the number of drywall panels needed.
Calculation Method
The calculator multiplies the height by the length of a single wall to get the area of one wall. It then multiplies this by the number of walls to get the total wall area. This total wall area is divided by the area of a single drywall panel to get the total number of panels needed. An additional waste factor percentage is added to account for material lost during installation.
Limitations
This calculator provides an estimate based on the inputs provided. It does not account for doors, windows, or other interruptions in the wall surface. It is advisable to purchase slightly more material than estimated to ensure enough supply.
Use Cases for This Calculator
Calculate Drywall Area
Enter the length and height of each wall in the room to calculate the total area needed for drywall installation. The calculator will automatically sum up the wall areas for an accurate estimate.
Factor in Windows and Doors
Input the dimensions of windows and doors in the room to subtract from the total wall area. The calculator will deduct these areas to provide a more precise estimate of drywall needed.
Select Drywall Sheet Size
Choose the size of drywall sheets (e.g., 4′ x 8′, 4′ x 12′) you plan to use for the project. This selection will help the calculator determine the number of sheets required for installation.
Estimate Joint Compound
Specify the number of coats of joint compound you intend to apply. The calculator will factor in this information to estimate the amount of joint compound needed for finishing the drywall surface.
Include Ceiling Drywall
Indicate whether you are also drywalling the ceiling in the room. Adding this information will ensure the calculator includes the ceiling area in the total drywall estimate.
Calculate Total Drywall Cost
Enter the cost per drywall sheet and joint compound to calculate the total material costs for your project. The calculator will generate the overall cost based on the quantities required.
Save and Print Results
After obtaining the drywall estimate, you can choose to save or print the results for your records. This feature allows you to refer back to the calculations during the project.
Adjust Quantities for Waste
If you want to account for waste due to cutting or mistakes, adjust the quantities slightly higher to ensure you have enough materials. The calculator will update the estimates accordingly.
Calculate Labor Costs
Estimate the labor costs based on your hourly rate or the rate provided by your contractor. The calculator will help you determine the total cost of labor for the drywall installation.
