AASHTOWare Estimator – Accurate Calculations

This tool helps you estimate the costs and resources needed for your transportation projects accurately.

How to Use the AASHTOWare Estimator

To use this calculator, please follow these steps:

  1. Enter the length of the area in feet.
  2. Enter the width of the area in feet.
  3. Enter the depth of the material in inches.
  4. Enter the material density in pounds per cubic foot (lbs/ft³).
  5. Enter the price per unit volume of the material in dollars per cubic foot ($/ft³).
  6. Enter the labor cost in dollars.
  7. Enter any miscellaneous costs in dollars.
  8. Click the “Calculate” button to see the estimated total cost, total weight, and total volume.

Calculation Details

The calculator performs the following steps to estimate the total cost and other metrics:

  • Converts the depth from inches to feet.
  • Calculates the volume by multiplying the length, width, and depth (in feet).
  • Calculates the total weight by multiplying the volume by the material density.
  • Calculates the material cost by multiplying the volume by the price per unit volume.
  • Adds the material cost, labor cost, and miscellaneous costs to get the total cost.

Limitations

This calculator provides estimates based on the provided input values and assumes uniform dimensions and consistent material density. It does not account for variations in material quality, unexpected expenses, or specific site conditions. Always consult with a professional for precise cost estimations and feasibility studies.

Use Cases for This Calculator

Calculating Earthwork Volumes

Enter your project’s cut and fill measurements to determine the volume of earthwork required. This feature helps you accurately estimate the amount of material needed for excavation and embankment construction.

Estimating Material Costs

Input material prices and quantities to obtain a detailed cost estimate for your project. This allows you to budget effectively and plan for expenses related to construction materials.

Generating Bid Item Reports
