How to Use the Stair Square Footage Calculator

This calculator helps you estimate the square footage of your stairs. It takes into account various parameters including the number of risers, tread depth, riser height, stair width, and landing length.

Instructions:

  • Enter the number of risers in your stairway. This is the number of vertical components of the stairs.
  • Input the tread depth in inches. This is the horizontal part of each step.
  • Enter the riser height in inches. This is the vertical part of each step.
  • Specify the stair width in inches. This is the horizontal space the staircase covers left to right.
  • If there is a landing, enter the landing length in inches. If not, simply enter ‘0’.
  • Click the “Calculate” button to see the results.

How It Calculates:

The calculator first determines the total run and total rise of the stairs by multiplying the number of risers with the respective tread depth and riser height. It then calculates the total stair area by adding the total run, the landing length, and multiplying by the stair width. Finally, it converts the area from square inches to square feet by dividing by 144.

Limitations:

Please note that this calculator assumes a single-flight stairway and does not account for complex designs such as spiral or multi-flight stairs. The accuracy is dependent on the precision of the input measurements.
