How to Use the FBB Calorie Calculator
Fill in your age, gender, weight in kilograms, and height in centimeters. Select your activity level from the dropdown menu. The activity levels are categorized as Sedentary (little or no exercise), Lightly active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week), Moderately active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week), Very active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week), and Extra active (very hard exercise/sports & a physical job).
After entering all the required information, click the “Calculate” button. The calculator will display your daily calorie intake requirement based on the BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) and your selected activity level.
How It Calculates the Results
The Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is calculated using the Mifflin St Jeor Equation:
For Men: BMR = 10 * weight (kg) + 6.25 * height (cm) – 5 * age (years) + 5
For Women: BMR = 10 * weight (kg) + 6.25 * height (cm) – 5 * age (years) – 161
Then, based on your activity level, the BMR is multiplied by the corresponding activity factor to determine total calorie intake:
- Sedentary: BMR * 1.2
- Lightly active: BMR * 1.375
- Moderately active: BMR * 1.55
- Very active: BMR * 1.725
- Extra active: BMR * 1.9
