Calorie Deficit Calculator NHS – Accurate Health Tool

This tool helps you determine your daily calorie intake needed for weight loss.

Calorie Deficit Calculator

How It Works

This calorie deficit calculator helps you estimate the number of calories you should consume daily to achieve a specific weight loss goal. The calculator factors in your age, sex, weight, height, and activity level to estimate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) using the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation. The BMR is then adjusted for your activity level to estimate your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE). Finally, it subtracts the required calorie deficit to meet your weight loss goal.

How to Use

  1. Enter your age in years.
  2. Select your sex.
  3. Enter your current weight in kilograms (kg).
  4. Enter your height in centimeters (cm).
  5. Select your activity level from the dropdown menu.
  6. Enter your desired weight loss goal per week in kilograms (kg).
  7. Click the “Calculate” button to see the result.

Calculation Explanation

  • BMR Calculation: For men: BMR = 10 * weight + 6.25 * height – 5 * age + 5. For women: BMR = 10 * weight + 6.25 * height – 5 * age – 161.
  • TDEE Calculation: TDEE = BMR * activity level factor.
  • Calorie Deficit: 1 kg of body weight is approximately equal to 7700 calories. Therefore, your weekly calorie deficit is your weight loss goal * 7700. The daily calorie deficit needed is the weekly deficit divided by 7. Final calorie intake = TDEE – daily calorie deficit.

Limitations

Please note that this calculator provides an estimation. It’s crucial to consider individual variations and consult a healthcare professional for personalized advice. Rapid weight loss can be harmful, and it’s generally recommended not to exceed a weight loss goal of 1 kg per week.
