How it Calculates
This calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation to estimate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), which is the number of calories your body needs at rest. The formula is adjusted depending on your gender. Here’s how it works:
- For Men: ( BMR = 10 times weight + 6.25 times height – 5 times age + 5 )
- For Women: ( BMR = 10 times weight + 6.25 times height – 5 times age – 161 )
Then, we multiply the BMR by an activity factor to estimate your total daily energy expenditure (TDEE). Finally, to suggest the number of calories to gain weight, we add approximately 500 calories to your TDEE.
