This tool helps you calculate your daily calorie needs based on your macronutrient preferences.
How to Use the Calorie Calculator by Macros
To use the calorie calculator, follow these steps:
- Enter your weight in kilograms.
- Enter your height in centimeters.
- Enter your age.
- Select your sex (male or female).
- Choose your activity level from the dropdown menu.
- Select your goal (maintain weight, lose weight, or gain weight).
- Click the “Calculate” button to see the results.
How It Calculates the Results
This calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation to estimate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), which is the number of calories your body needs to function at rest. The formula for males is:
BMR = 88.362 + (13.397 * weight in kg) + (4.799 * height in cm) - (5.677 * age in years)
For females, the formula is:
BMR = 447.593 + (9.247 * weight in kg) + (3.098 * height in cm) - (4.330 * age in years)
Then, the calculator multiplies your BMR by an activity level multiplier to estimate your daily calorie requirement:
- Sedentary (little or no exercise): BMR x 1.2
- Light Activity (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week): BMR x 1.375
- Moderate Activity (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week): BMR x 1.55
- Active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week): BMR x 1.725
- Very Active (very hard exercise/sports & physical job): BMR x 1.9
If you choose to lose weight, 500 calories are subtracted from your daily requirement. If you choose to gain weight, 500 calories are added. The remaining calories are then distributed among the macronutrients – protein (30% of daily calories), fat (25% of daily calories), and carbohydrates (45% of daily calories).
Limitations
While this calculator provides an estimate, individual calorie needs vary. Factors such as muscle mass, metabolism rate, and other health conditions are not accounted for. It’s always recommended to consult with a healthcare provider or a dietitian for a personalized dietary plan.
