Use this tool to calculate the calories you need to build muscle and gain strength.
How to Use the Calorie Calculator
This calorie calculator is designed to help you estimate the number of calories you need to maintain, lose, or gain weight, depending on your activity level and goal. Follow these steps to use the calculator:
- Enter your age in years.
- Enter your weight in kilograms.
- Enter your height in centimeters.
- Select your gender (male or female).
- Select your activity level from the dropdown menu.
- Select your goal: muscle gain, fat loss, or maintain weight.
- Click the “Calculate” button to see your results.
How It Works
The calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation to estimate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), which is the number of calories your body needs to maintain basic physiological functions while at rest.
BMR for Men: BMR = 88.362 + (13.397 x weight in kg) + (4.799 x height in cm) – (5.677 x age in years)
BMR for Women: BMR = 447.593 + (9.247 x weight in kg) + (3.098 x height in cm) – (4.330 x age in years)
The BMR is then multiplied by an activity factor to estimate your daily caloric needs:
- Sedentary (little to no exercise): 1.2
- Lightly active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week): 1.375
- Moderately active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week): 1.55
- Very active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week): 1.725
- Super active (very hard exercise/sports and a physical job): 1.9
Depending on your goal, calories are adjusted:
- For muscle gain: add 500 calories to your maintenance calories.
- For fat loss: subtract 500 calories from your maintenance calories.
- To maintain weight: use maintenance calories as calculated.
Limitations
While this calculator provides a good estimate, individual factors such as metabolic rate, muscle mass, and overall health can influence your actual caloric needs. Use this calculator as a guideline and adjust based on your personal experience and results. Always consult a healthcare provider or nutritionist for personalized advice.
