How to Use the Asphalt Driveway Calculator

To use this calculator, fill in the following fields:

  • Length: Enter the length of the driveway in feet.
  • Width: Enter the width of the driveway in feet.
  • Thickness: Enter the thickness of the asphalt layer in inches.
  • Density: Enter the density of asphalt in lbs per cubic foot. The default value is 145 lbs/cu ft.
  • Cost: Enter the cost per ton of asphalt.

Click the “Calculate” button to get the total cost of your asphalt driveway.

How it Calculates the Results

The calculator performs the following steps to provide the total cost:

  1. Converts the thickness from inches to feet.
  2. Calculates the volume of asphalt required in cubic feet using the formula: Length × Width × Thickness.
  3. Calculates the weight of the asphalt in pounds by multiplying the volume by the density.
  4. Converts the weight from pounds to tons (1 ton = 2000 lbs).
  5. Calculates the total cost by multiplying the weight in tons by the cost per ton of asphalt entered by the user.

Limitations

This calculator assumes a uniform thickness of the asphalt across the driveway. Variations in the layer thickness can lead to inaccuracies. Additionally, the calculator does not account for any additional costs like labor, transportation, or preparation work. Always consult with a professional for a precise estimate.
