How the Calculator Works

This calorie calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation to estimate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), which is the number of calories your body needs at rest. The formulae used are:

  • For men: 10 * weight (kg) + 6.25 * height (cm) – 5 * age (years) + 5
  • For women: 10 * weight (kg) + 6.25 * height (cm) – 5 * age (years) – 161

The daily calorie requirement is then estimated by multiplying the BMR by an activity factor based on your selected activity level:

  • Sedentary: BMR * 1.2
  • Lightly active: BMR * 1.375
  • Moderately active: BMR * 1.55
  • Very active: BMR * 1.725
  • Extra active: BMR * 1.9
