How the Calculator Works
The calorie calculator primarily uses the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation to estimate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). BMR is the number of calories your body needs to accomplish its most basic (basal) life-sustaining functions. The equation is:
- For men: BMR = 10 * weight (kg) + 6.25 * height (cm) – 5 * age (y) + 5
- For women: BMR = 10 * weight (kg) + 6.25 * height (cm) – 5 * age (y) – 161
Once the BMR is calculated, it is then multiplied by the Activity Level factor to determine your daily calorie needs, which shows the number of calories you need to consume each day to maintain your current weight at the stated activity level.
Limitations
This calculator provides estimates and cannot account for all variables that affect caloric needs. Factors such as muscle mass, body composition, hormone levels, and overall health can alter your actual calorie needs.
