Calorie Calculator Explained

This calorie calculator helps you estimate your daily caloric needs based on your gender, age, weight, height, and activity level. Here’s how it works:

How to Use

  1. Select your gender from the dropdown menu.
  2. Input your age in years.
  3. Input your weight in kilograms.
  4. Input your height in centimeters.
  5. Select your activity level from the dropdown menu.
  6. Click the “Calculate” button to see your results.

How It Calculates the Results

The calculator first determines your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) using the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation:

  • For males: BMR = 10 * weight (kg) + 6.25 * height (cm) – 5 * age (years) + 5.
  • For females: BMR = 10 * weight (kg) + 6.25 * height (cm) – 5 * age (years) – 161.

Then, it adjusts the BMR according to your activity level:

  • Sedentary (little or no exercise): BMR * 1.2
  • Light (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week): BMR * 1.375
  • Moderate (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week): BMR * 1.55
  • Active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week): BMR * 1.725
  • Very Active (very hard exercise/sports & a physical job): BMR * 1.9

Limitations

Please remember that this calculator provides an estimate and actual caloric needs may vary based on factors like muscle mass, metabolic health, and more. Always consult with a healthcare provider or dietitian for personalized advice.
