Calorie Calculator to Gain Weight
How to use the calculator
To use the calorie calculator, enter your weight in kilograms, your height in centimeters, your age, select your gender, and your activity level. Once all fields have been filled, click the “Calculate” button to see your daily caloric needs to gain weight.
How it calculates
The calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation to estimate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR):
For men: BMR = (10 × weight in kg) + (6.25 × height in cm) – (5 × age in years) + 5
For women: BMR = (10 × weight in kg) + (6.25 × height in cm) – (5 × age in years) – 161
This BMR is then multiplied by an activity factor based on your selected activity level:
- Sedentary: BMR × 1.2
- Lightly active: BMR × 1.375
- Moderately active: BMR × 1.55
- Very active: BMR × 1.725
- Super active: BMR × 1.9
The final number represents the total number of calories you need to consume daily to maintain your current weight. To gain weight, you should consume more calories than this amount. A common recommendation is to add 500 calories per day to achieve a moderate weight gain.
