How to Use the Calorie Calculator

To use this calculator, enter your age, gender, weight, height, and select your activity level and goal. Click the “Calculate” button to see your results.

The calculator will provide you with the following information:

  • BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate): The number of calories your body needs to maintain basic bodily functions at rest.
  • Maintenance Calories: The number of calories you need to maintain your current weight given your activity level.
  • Goal Calories: The suggested number of calories you need to consume daily to achieve your selected goal (lose, maintain, or gain weight).

How It Calculates the Results

The calorie calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation to estimate your BMR:

  • For males: BMR = 10 × weight (kg) + 6.25 × height (cm) – 5 × age (years) + 5
  • For females: BMR = 10 × weight (kg) + 6.25 × height (cm) – 5 × age (years) – 161

Your BMR is then multiplied by an activity factor to estimate your maintenance calories:

  • Sedentary (little or no exercise): maintenance = BMR × 1.2
  • Lightly active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week): maintenance = BMR × 1.375
  • Moderately active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week): maintenance = BMR × 1.55
  • Very active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week): maintenance = BMR × 1.725
  • Extra active (very hard exercise/sports or a physical job): maintenance = BMR × 1.9

The goal calories are then calculated by adding or subtracting 500 calories to the maintenance calories depending on whether the goal is to gain or lose weight.

Limitations

Please note that the results from this calculator are estimates and may not be completely accurate for everyone. Individual variations such as muscle mass, metabolic health, and other factors may affect actual calorie needs. It’s always best to consult with a healthcare provider or dietitian for personalized advice.
