How to Use the Calorie Calculator

To use the calorie calculator, follow these steps:

  1. Enter your age in years.
  2. Select your gender (male or female).
  3. Input your weight in kilograms.
  4. Input your height in centimeters.
  5. Select your activity level from the dropdown menu.
  6. Click the “Calculate” button to see the results.

The results will show your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE). The BMR indicates the number of calories you need at rest, while the TDEE shows the number of calories you need daily based on your activity level.

How It Calculates the Results

The calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation to calculate the Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR):

  • For males: BMR = 88.362 + (13.397 x weight in kg) + (4.799 x height in cm) – (5.677 x age in years)
  • For females: BMR = 447.593 + (9.247 x weight in kg) + (3.098 x height in cm) – (4.330 x age in years)

The BMR is then multiplied by an activity factor to determine the Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE):

  • Sedentary (little or no exercise): TDEE = BMR x 1.2
  • Lightly active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week): TDEE = BMR x 1.375
  • Moderately active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week): TDEE = BMR x 1.55
  • Very active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week): TDEE = BMR x 1.725
  • Super active (very hard exercise/sports & physical job or 2x training): TDEE = BMR x 1.9

Limitations

The calorie calculator provides general estimates and may not be accurate for everyone. Individual calorie requirements can vary based on genetics, muscle mass, and other factors. This calculator does not account for special dietary needs, health conditions, or highly specific athletic goals. Always consult with a healthcare provider or nutritionist for personalized advice.
