How to Use the Calorie Calculator

To use this calorie calculator, simply enter your weight, height, age, select your gender and activity level. The calculator will then compute your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE).

How the Calculator Works

The calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation to estimate your BMR. It then applies an activity multiplier based on your selected activity level to estimate your total daily calorie needs (TDEE).

Mifflin-St Jeor Equation:

  • For Men: BMR = 10 * weight (kg) + 6.25 * height (cm) – 5 * age (years) + 5
  • For Women: BMR = 10 * weight (kg) + 6.25 * height (cm) – 5 * age (years) – 161

The activity multipliers used are:

  • Sedentary (little or no exercise) = 1.2
  • Lightly active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week) = 1.375
  • Moderately active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week) = 1.55
  • Very active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week) = 1.725
  • Super active (very hard exercise/sports & a physical job) = 1.9

Limitations

This calculator provides an estimate based on the inputs provided. Individual calorie needs can vary due to factors like body composition, medical conditions, and more. Always consult with a healthcare provider or a nutritionist for personalized advice.
