How It Calculates the Results

This calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation to estimate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), the number of calories your body needs for basic functions. The formula is as follows:

For men: BMR = 10 * weight (kg) + 6.25 * height (cm) – 5 * age (years) + 5

For women: BMR = 10 * weight (kg) + 6.25 * height (cm) – 5 * age (years) – 161

The BMR is then multiplied by an activity factor to estimate Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE):

  • Sedentary: TDEE = BMR * 1.2
  • Lightly active: TDEE = BMR * 1.375
  • Moderately active: TDEE = BMR * 1.55
  • Active: TDEE = BMR * 1.725
  • Very active: TDEE = BMR * 1.9

The daily caloric deficit goal is then subtracted from your TDEE to estimate the number of calories you should consume to lose weight.
