How the Calorie Calculator Works

This calorie calculator estimates the number of calories you need to maintain your current weight, based on your age, gender, weight, height, and activity level.

How to Use the Calculator

  1. Enter your age in years.
  2. Select your gender from the dropdown menu.
  3. Enter your weight in kilograms.
  4. Enter your height in centimeters.
  5. Select your activity level from the dropdown menu.
  6. Click the “Calculate” button to see your daily caloric needs.

How It Calculates the Results

The calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation for calculating the Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), which indicates the number of calories you would burn per day if you were at rest. The equation is as follows:

  • For men: (BMR = 10 cdot text{weight (kg)} + 6.25 cdot text{height (cm)} – 5 cdot text{age (years)} + 5)
  • For women: (BMR = 10 cdot text{weight (kg)} + 6.25 cdot text{height (cm)} – 5 cdot text{age (years)} – 161)

The BMR is then multiplied by an activity factor that corresponds to your selected activity level to estimate your daily caloric needs:

  • Sedentary: BMR × 1.2
  • Lightly Active: BMR × 1.375
  • Moderately Active: BMR × 1.55
  • Very Active: BMR × 1.725
  • Super Active: BMR × 1.9

Limitations

While this calculator provides a good estimate of your caloric needs, it does not take into account individual metabolic variations, muscle mass, and other factors that can affect calorie requirements. For personalized advice, it is recommended to consult with a healthcare provider or nutritionist.
