How the Calculator Works

The calculator uses the Harris-Benedict equation to estimate your basal metabolic rate (BMR), which is the number of calories your body needs at rest. It then multiplies your BMR by your activity level to estimate your total daily energy expenditure (TDEE).

  • BMR for Males: 88.362 + (13.397 * weight in kg) + (4.799 * height in cm) – (5.677 * age in years)
  • BMR for Females: 447.593 + (9.247 * weight in kg) + (3.098 * height in cm) – (4.330 * age in years)

The activity multipliers range from 1.2 for sedentary individuals to 1.9 for super active individuals.

Limitations

This calculator provides an estimate based on general population averages. Individual calorie needs can vary based on factors like muscle mass, overall health, and genetic differences. For personalized dietary advice, it’s recommended to consult with a healthcare or nutrition professional.
