Flooring Calculator – Estimate Your Carpet and Tile Needs

This tool helps you calculate the amount of flooring material you need for your room.

Flooring Calculator

Use this calculator to estimate the number of tiles you will need to cover a floor area. Simply input the dimensions of the floor in feet and the dimensions of a single tile in inches. Additionally, include a waste percentage to account for cuts and wastage.

How to Use the Calculator

  • Enter the length of the floor in feet.
  • Enter the width of the floor in feet.
  • Enter the length of a tile in inches.
  • Enter the width of a tile in inches.
  • Enter the waste percentage (e.g. 10 for 10%).
  • Click ‘Calculate’ to see the result.

How the Calculation is Done

The calculator divides the total floor area (length multiplied by width) by the area of a single tile (length multiplied by width, converted from inches to feet). It then adjusts for the wastage percentage by increasing the total number of tiles needed by that percentage. Finally, it rounds up the number of tiles to the nearest whole number to ensure you purchase sufficient tiles.

Limitations

Note that this calculator does not account for the layout or pattern of the tiles. It assumes a straightforward grid layout without borders or special cuts. Always purchase a bit extra to cover unexpected needs and ensure you have the same batch of tiles for consistency in color and texture.
