Use our gravel calculator to accurately determine the amount of gravel you need for your landscaping project.
Gravel Calculator
This gravel calculator allows you to estimate the amount of gravel you will need for your project. Simply enter the length and width of the area to cover in meters, the depth desired in centimeters, and the density of the gravel (typically around 1600 kg/m³, but check with your supplier for exact figures).
How to Use the Gravel Calculator
- Enter the Length: The length of the area you need to cover in meters.
- Enter the Width: The width of the area in meters.
- Enter the Depth: The desired depth of gravel in centimeters.
- Enter the Density: The density of the gravel. If you are unsure, 1600 kg/m³ is a common average value.
- Click ‘Calculate’ to get the result.
How It Calculates the Results
The calculator computes the volume of gravel required using the formula:
Volume = Length × Width × Depth
where the depth is converted from centimeters to meters to be consistent with the other dimensions. It then calculates the weight of the gravel required using the formula:
Weight = Volume × Density.
Limitations
This calculator assumes that the ground is level and that the gravel will be spread evenly. It does not account for compaction of gravel over time or the potential for waste due to uneven surfaces. Consider ordering slightly more gravel than calculated to account for this.
