How to Use the Home Square Foot Calculator
Enter the length and width of your home in feet. Specify the number of floors in the home. If your home includes a garage and you wish to include its area in the calculations, select ‘Yes’ under ‘Include Garage Area’ and enter the garage area.
Additionally, use the ‘Efficiency’ field to specify the percentage of usable area in the house; this helps to account for non-usable spaces like walls and utility areas. Press ‘Calculate’ to see your results.
How the Calculator Works
The calculator multiplies the home’s length and width to determine the area of one floor, then multiplies this by the number of floors to get the main area. If selected, the garage area is added to this total. The result is multiplied by the efficiency percentage to estimate the usable area.
Limitations
This calculator assumes all floors have the same dimensions. It also assumes garages are not included by default, unless specified. Wall thickness, basement areas, attics, and irregular room shapes may affect accuracy.
