Use this tool to estimate how much paint you’ll need for your project.

How to Use the Paint Calculator

To use this paint calculator, follow these steps:

  1. Enter the width of the wall (in feet) that you want to paint.
  2. Enter the height of the wall (in feet) that you want to paint.
  3. Enter the number of windows on the wall.
  4. Enter the number of doors on the wall.
  5. Enter the number of coats of paint you plan to apply.
  6. Enter the coverage per gallon of the paint you are using (in sq ft).
  7. Click the “Calculate” button to get the result.

How It Calculates the Results

Here is how the paint calculator performs its calculations:

  • Calculates the total area of the wall using width * height.
  • Subtracts the area of the windows and doors from the total wall area (assuming standard window area of 15 sq ft and door area of 20 sq ft).
  • Multiplies the net area by the number of coats to get the total area to be painted.
  • Divides the total area to be painted by the coverage per gallon to get the amount of paint needed in gallons.

Limitations

The calculator assumes that:

  • Each window has an approximate area of 15 sq ft.
  • Each door has an approximate area of 20 sq ft.
  • All calculations are approximations and may not reflect exact requirements due to variations in paint type, wall texture, and other factors.
