Understanding the Calculation

The PFMA Calorie Calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation to estimate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR).

  • For males: BMR = 10 × weight (kg) + 6.25 × height (cm) – 5 × age (years) + 5
  • For females: BMR = 10 × weight (kg) + 6.25 × height (cm) – 5 × age (years) – 161

This BMR is then multiplied by an activity factor that corresponds to your selected activity level:

  • Moderate: BMR × 1.55
  • Active: BMR × 1.725
  • Extra Active: BMR × 1.9

Finally, an adjustment is made based on your goal:

  • Maintain Weight: Daily Calories × 1.0
  • Gain Weight: Daily Calories × 1.15
