Raised Bed Soil Calculator | Accurate Garden Soil Estimator

The raised bed soil calculator tool helps you determine the amount of soil needed for your garden bed based on its dimensions.

How to Use the Raised Bed Soil Calculator

This raised bed soil calculator helps you determine how much soil you need to fill a raised garden bed. Enter the dimensions of your garden bed—length, width (in feet), and depth (in inches) to calculate the volume of soil required in cubic yards.

Steps:

  1. Enter the length of your raised bed in feet into the length field.
  2. Enter the width of your raised bed in feet into the width field.
  3. Enter the depth of your raised bed in inches into the depth field.
  4. Click the “Calculate” button to see the result in cubic yards needed to fill the bed.

How It Calculates the Results:

The calculator takes the length, width, and depth you provide and converts the depth from inches to feet. It then multiplies all three dimensions to get the volume in cubic feet. Finally, it converts the volume from cubic feet to cubic yards (since soil is often sold by the cubic yard) by dividing by 27 (since there are 27 cubic feet in one cubic yard).

Limitations:

  • This calculator assumes that the sides of the raised bed are straight and perpendicular to the ground.
  • It does not account for any irregular shapes or deviations in dimensions.
  • It provides a theoretical volume and does not account for settling or packing of soil over time.
