Rock Calculator: Accurate Weight & Volume Estimates

This rock calculator tool helps you determine the weight and volume of rocks based on their dimensions.

Rock Calculator

This Rock Calculator is designed to help you estimate the amount of rock you need for a landscaping project. Enter the length and width of the area in feet, and the depth in inches, and click “Calculate” to get the volume of rock required in cubic yards.

How to Use It

  • Enter the length of the area in feet.
  • Enter the width of the area in feet.
  • Enter the depth of the area in inches.
  • Click on “Calculate” to see the result in cubic yards.

How It Calculates the Result

The calculator uses the following formula to compute the volume of rock needed:

Volume (cubic yards) = (Length (ft) * Width (ft) * Depth (in) / 12) / 27

The formula first converts the depth from inches to feet by dividing by 12, then computes the volume in cubic feet. The volume in cubic feet is then divided by 27 to convert it to cubic yards.

Limitations

While this calculator provides an estimate, it is always advisable to purchase slightly more rock than calculated to account for variations in depth and other factors. This calculator does not take into account specific density variations of different rock types.
