How to Use the Square Footage Calculator

To use this calculator, follow these steps:

  1. Enter the length of the area in feet.
  2. Enter the width of the area in feet.
  3. Enter the additional length in inches.
  4. Enter the additional width in inches.
  5. If you also want the result in square yards, check the checkbox labeled “Include Area in Square Yards”.
  6. Click the “Calculate” button to see the results.

How It Calculates the Results

This calculator uses the following steps to compute the area in both square feet and optionally square yards:

  1. It first validates that all inputs are numeric values.
  2. It then converts inches to feet (since there are 12 inches in a foot).
  3. It adds the inch values (converted to feet) to the respective foot values.
  4. It then multiplies the length by the width to get the area in square feet.
  5. If the checkbox for square yards is selected, it divides the area in square feet by 9 (since there are 9 square feet in a square yard) to get the area in square yards.

Limitations

This calculator:

  • Only works with rectangular areas.
  • Assumes all measurements are accurate to the nearest inch.
  • Will not handle negative values or non-numeric inputs.
