Shingle Bundle Calculator – Accurate Roofing Estimates

This tool helps you calculate the number of shingle bundles you need for your roofing project.

How to Use the Shingle Bundle Calculator

To use this calculator, follow these steps:

  1. Enter the length of your roof in feet.
  2. Enter the width of your roof in feet.
  3. Enter the pitch of your roof as a rise over run value in decimal format (e.g., 0.5 for a 6/12 pitch).
  4. Enter the coverage area of one shingle bundle in square feet as specified by the manufacturer.
  5. Click the ‘Calculate’ button to see the result.

Explanation of Calculation

The calculation works by determining the total surface area of your roof based on its length, width, and pitch. The pitch affects the surface area as follows:

Total Surface Area = Length x Width x sqrt(1 + pitch^2)

Then, the number of shingle bundles needed is calculated by dividing the total surface area by the coverage area of one shingle bundle.

Limitations

Please note the following limitations of this calculator:

  • This calculator does not account for waste or additional materials needed for valleys, ridges, and hips.
  • Always consult with a roofing contractor to get exact estimates and consider other factors that may affect material requirements.
