This tool calculates the amount of soil needed to fill your pots based on their dimensions.
Soil Calculator for Pots
This calculator helps you estimate the amount of soil needed for multiple pots of specific dimensions. Simply enter the diameter and height of your pot, the soil density, and the number of pots, then click “Calculate”. The result will be displayed in kilograms.
How to Use
- Enter the diameter of the pot in centimeters.
- Enter the height of the pot in centimeters.
- Enter the soil density in grams per cubic centimeter (g/cm³).
- Enter the number of pots you plan to fill.
- Click “Calculate” to see the total amount of soil needed in kilograms.
How It Calculates
The calculator uses the formula for the volume of a cylinder to determine the volume of soil needed for one pot: πr²h, where r is the radius (half the diameter) and h is the height. This volume is then converted from cubic centimeters to liters. The mass of the soil needed is calculated based on the soil density provided, and this mass is then scaled up by the number of pots. Finally, the result is converted to kilograms for easier interpretation.
Limitations
This calculator assumes the pots are perfect cylinders and that the soil density is consistent and accurately known. Variations in pot shape, soil compaction, or inaccurate density values can lead to errors in the estimation. Always consider having a little extra soil on hand to account for these variations.
