How to Use the Topsoil Calculator
Enter the length and width of the area you need to cover with topsoil in feet. Then enter the desired depth of topsoil in inches. Click the “Calculate” button to see how many cubic yards of topsoil you will need.
How It Calculates
The calculator converts the depth from inches to feet (since there are 12 inches in a foot). It then multiplies the length by the width and the converted depth to find the cubic feet of topsoil needed. Finally, it divides the total cubic feet by 27, as there are 27 cubic feet in a cubic yard, to find the total cubic yards required.
Limitations
The calculator assumes that the area you are covering is a perfect rectangle and that the surface is level. It does not account for compaction or irregular shapes. Additionally, because soil can vary in density and moisture content, the actual amount needed could differ from the calculated amount.
