Yard Calculator for Dirt – Easy Volume Calculation

This tool calculates how much dirt you need for your yard projects.

How to Use the Yard Calculator

To use this yard calculator, please follow these steps:

  1. Enter the length of the area in feet.
  2. Enter the width of the area in feet.
  3. Enter the depth of the area in inches.
  4. Click the “Calculate” button to get the result.

How it Calculates

The yard calculator calculates the volume of dirt needed as follows:

  • First, it converts the depth from inches to feet by dividing the depth value by 12.
  • Next, it calculates the cubic feet by multiplying the length, width, and depth (in feet).
  • Finally, it converts the cubic feet to cubic yards by dividing the cubic feet by 27 (since 1 cubic yard = 27 cubic feet).

Limitations

Please note the following limitations of this yard calculator:

  • The calculator assumes a regular rectangular area. If your area has an irregular shape, the result might not be accurate.
  • This tool only calculates volume and does not account for factors like soil compaction or moisture content.
  • All measurements should be in feet and inches as specified.
